About the Academic Affairs Office

Children’s National Medical Center’s mission is to promote clinical care, advocacy, research and education locally, nationally and internationally. This mission upholds the more than 125-year-old traditions of an institution that has been the primary provider of care for children in the Nation’s Capital. Scholarship, academic excellence and innovation have underwritten that tradition of CARE, and will continue to support our academic mission.

Each faculty member contributes to the mission and is rewarded in part for their intellectual contributions through the appointment, promotion and tenure process (APT). The APT process provides the framework for faculty members to define their professional goals and strive to meet them while periodically reviewing and adjusting them to meet the changing needs of the individual, their division and the hospital.
